Welcome to Health and P.E.! This is my 9th year teaching at
Fredonia and 13th year teaching. I have taught at Wheelock, the
Elementary, Middle and High School level and previously at Cardinal O'Hara
High School and North Tonawanda Middle School. I enjoy teaching children
health and physical education, especially since it is about their overall
health and well-being.
I have an awesome family and children; Cole 9, Ella 6 and Reed 3, I speak of
them frequently in class discussions. I enjoy reading, playing outside,
riding bikes and the weekends with my wife and children along with simply
spending quality time with my extended family and friends. I love to run 3.5
mile and 5K Runs as well. I enjoy playing basketball, softball and golf when
I get a chance. I love following my Duke Blue Devils in NCAA basketball. I
have officiated H.S. basketball for about 13 years and softball for about 10
years. I love that aspect of still being involved in sports in other means! I
simply love staying active!!
I use a theme of "SOAR for the Stars": "SOAR"! I want students to grow to
be Safe, Organized, Accountable, and Respectful individuals. I
encourage students to exhibit these traits while they prepare to enter my
classroom as well as life.
I teach using a variety of strategies to attempt to reach all kinds of
learning styles. I use videos, stations, worksheets, games, role-plays, arts
and crafts, small and large group settings and traditional teaching styles as
well. It includes active learning strategies to help students to develop the
knowledge and life skills they need to avoid health risk behaviors.
I incorporate "Navigate by the Stars" Health Education which focuses on health
and education best practices by following the ten Navigational Stars which
include:
~ Standards Based
~ Skills Driven
~ Scientifically Research Based
~ Learner Centered
~ Strength Based
~ Authentic
~ Integrated into the Total Educational Program
~ Provided by Qualified and Skilled Teachers
~ Fully Supported by the School and Community
~ Coordinated School Health Framework
