The Dunkirk Historical Society is having a fundraising pancake breakfast
at Applebee's Restaurant, and needs volunteers to work it!
See Mrs. Forbes if you'd like to offer your Saturday morning time.
If your family would like to come for breakfast, tix are $5 per person.
Go with an adult to VOTE on Election Day for
extra credit... get card in S.S. class, to get signed at voting location

Of historical interest, the first naval skirmish in the War of 1812 began in Lake Erie near the mouth of the Canadaway Creek, which is now within the boundaries of the town of Dunkirk. A small marker commemorating the event sits near the intersection of Route 5 and Temple Street. (by 1/4/13) GET A PICTURE OF YOURSELF NEXT TO THE WAR OF 1812 SIGN, AND EMAIL IT TO ME OR PRINT IT/BRING IT IN TO ME....5 points!

Complete a simple service project over the weekend, fill out the form (available in class or on this website), and hand it in to Mrs. Forbes Tuesday 1/22.

Sing "O, Canada" to Mrs. Forbes
anytime during our Canada unit
(January 29- February 15th)
2 points added to your Canada unit test grade!
Read any approved "Canada" book
from Mrs. Forbes' room (see Mrs. Forbes...),
take the AR test, and let Mrs. Forbes know if the score you earn is a grade you'd like to have added
to your 3rd Quarter S.S. average!
This helps your AR point total AND your S.S. average!
Stay 10th Period to read short books on Mexico.
Then take the AR test for each book.
This will count for AR as well as Social Studies!
Have your picture taken with the
Cushing brothers' monuments
(2 points each/5 points for both):
Alonzo Cushing is buried in West Point, but in June 2006,
a monument featuring his picture and biographical information
was built by students at Fredonia High School in the southwest
corner of Pioneer Cemetery.
William Cushing was honored in the 1860s with a monument
next to Fredonia’s Village Hall.
Go to downtown Westfield, New York and have your
taken with the statues of Abraham Lincoln and Grace Bedell
for 5 EXTRA CREDIT points for Social Studies.
