Of historical interest, the first naval skirmish in the War of 1812 began in Lake Erie near the mouth of the Canadaway Creek, which is now within the boundaries of the town of Dunkirk. A small marker commemorating the event sits near the intersection of Route 5 and Temple Street. (by 1/4/13) GET A PICTURE OF YOURSELF NEXT TO THE WAR OF 1812 SIGN, AND EMAIL IT TO ME OR PRINT IT/BRING IT IN TO ME....5 points!

monument featuring his picture and biographical information
was built by students at Fredonia High School in the
southwest
corner of Pioneer Cemetery
