Middle School - Life Skills (Home and Career Skills)
This course explores different careers, aspects of work and our economic system. Students will be required to do a volunteering project. This can be done at home, for the community or in school. Students will be learning decision-making and management skills such as time, money. They will learn about making goals and using resources. Students will be preparing foods in class, learning preparation skills, cooking terms and kitchen safety. Students will be introduced to the choosemyplate.gov, major nutrients and acceptable portion size. Students will be doing a sewing project, which will introduce them to the sewing machine
High School - Food and Nutrition
This course will provide students with a knowledge based and practical experience in foods and nutrition. Students will be able to make wise food choices, while using kitchen equipment and preparation techniques. Students will be preparing, serving and sampling many new and unusual foods in the laboratory-oriented course.
- Sports and Nutrition
This course will explore the effect of nutrition and diet on athlectic performance. Topics will include precompetition meals, carbohydrate loading, dehydration and thirst quenchers, how to gain or loose weight and maintain health and energy, tips for the traveling athelete and more.
