What books have been the most popular this year?

Unusual Suspects a series by Michael Buckley. This has been popular with fifth through
seventh grade students.

With the movie coming out this year The Golden Compass has been a popular selection.

Students have been enthralled by books on titles about pets, large and small. The Complete Dog
Book, The Ultimate Encyclopedia for Small Pets and Petcare, and Horses.

Bone by Jeff Smith and Calvin and Hobbes are a graphic novel and comic series that
are great! My son and I have read the series by Jeff Smith and are anxiously waiting Scholastic's
publication of the last of the series.

A few more nonfiction titles of note:
BattleBots by Mark Clarkson.
A Child called "it" by David Pelzer.

A few fiction titles of note:
Pants on fire by Meg Cabot.
Blood on the river James Town 1607 by Elisa Lynn Carbone, a good historical fiction.
The day my butt went psycho by Andy Griffiths.
Among the hidden and the rest of the series by Margaret Peterson Haddix.
Alabama Moon by Watt Key. Loved it! An adventure / survival story.
Miracle on 49th Street by Mike Lupica. Actually, ANY book by Mike Lupica.
Just like that by Marsha Qualey.

What is your favorite book?

I have so many favorite titles and they change daily but I guess I could
narrow it down to a few for this week.
Girl 15, Charming by insane by Sue Limb
Lulu Dark can see through walls by Bennett Madison

How do you decide what books to purchase?

I use reviews from two main journals, Booklist and VOYA (Voice of Youth
Advocates). I also take student, parent, and teacher requests into
consideration. I use an online source as my final review site as most of the
reviews are compiled in one place.
