What is a referral for special education?
A referral is a written statement asking that the school district evaluate your child to determine if he/she needs special education services. This written statement should be addressed to Mary Nicoletti at Roy C. Ketcham High School. The referral may result in a request to have your child tested to see if he or she needs special education services.Back to Top
The IEP evolves from a discussion that begins with how your child is doing in school. From that base, the CSE agrees on the goals your child should be working toward. The CSE then discusses the supports, services and modifications that the child needs to reach those goals. Finally, the CSE determines where those special education services will be provided and the student's placement must be in the least restrictive environment.Back to Top
