What should I do if I miss class?
It is YOUR responisbility to contact the school or visit the teacher to find out what you have missed. You can call the HS office and request your homework. You can have someone come in and pick it up for you or you can have a friend bring it to you. If you don't, please come and see me ASAP when you return-preferably before homeroom or during my study hall or plan periods- so that I can provide you with the work you have missed. Upon returning to class, check the yellow folder on the front board. Any handouts that you missed will be in that spot with your name on it. NOTE: IF YOU ARE ABSENT DUE TO A FIELD TRIP, YOU SHOULD SEE ME BEFORE THE TRIP TO GET THE WORK AHEAD OF TIME. ANY ASSIGNMENTS DUE THAT DAY SHOULD BE HANDED IN BEFORE YOU LEAVE.Back to Top
What is the homework/late work policy for English 12?
Plain and simple: your assignment is due ON THE DUE DATE-NO EXCUSES! You can receive full credit if your assignment is handed in during your class period, when it is collected. If you hand it in later that same day, you will receive a minor point deduction. You may hand the assignment in by 3 pm the following day BUT you will not receive any more than HALF CREDIT. If the assignment is not handed in by 3 pm following the due date, you will automatically receive a zero.Back to Top
Yes, there is a midterm exam for English 12. The exam will consist of bits and pieces of all materials covered from September through the mid-term period. It will include reading, writing, and multiple choice.Back to Top
In the past, English 12 students have had the option of being exempt from the final if their grades were high enough. This year, there is no final exam. However, there is a Senior Portfolio requirement that will take the place of the final exam and count as one-fifth of your final English 12 grade. This portfolio will consist of work that you have completed throughout your years here at HCS and will demonstrate your growth in the area of English Language Arts. It will demonstrate who you are as a reader/writer/critical thinker and will show just how fabulous and unique you are!Back to Top
What do I have to do to pass English 12?
1. Complete all assignments both in and out of class. 2. Hand in all assignments on time. 3. Seek help when you need it. 4. Be an active participant in class. 5. Push yourself to work beyond "good enough." You can always do better; never stop striving!Back to Top
I typically assign ONE extra credit assignment per quarter. However, this is not a given. It is my decision whether or not to provide an extra credit option. If I do choose to create extra credit, those who partake must follow directions precisesly or it will not be graded. For example, of an extra credit assignment states that it is to be TYPED, I will not accept a hand-written submission. Extra credit is is not required; providing you with an opportunity is a favor that I grant to you to help you raise your grade (and to help some of you pass the course). What happens if I fail English 12?
If you fail the course, you do not graduate. You do not walk across the stage with your class. Your options are to attend summer school or return next year.Back to Top
