Summer Reading 2009

The Importance of Summer Reading

Summer reading is very important in developing life-long reading habits, in maintaining literacy skills and in promoting reading for pleasure. Studies have repeatedly shown that students who continue to read during the summer months perform better when school resumes in the fall. Below you will find four separate catagories of books that are grade appropriate and which have been chosen from many different sources. These sources include the American Library Association, Syracuse University, University of California at Berkely, Classroom Connect and many more. Enjoy!

I - Recommended Books for the College Bound

II - Outstanding Reads for those entering 11th and 12th Grades

III - Summer Sizzlers for those entering 9th and 10th Grades

IV - Heat Beaters for Middle School
