Mission For The Class

Half Year Ceramics is designed to introduce students to clay using
handbuilding techniques only. They may choose to continue by taking Studio in
Art in Ceramics, a full year course, the following year.

Studio in Art in Ceramics works with both handbuilding techniques (pinch,
slab, coil, mold, sculpt) and throwing on the potter's wheel (mug, vase,
bowl).A Sketchbook is required and graded in this class. In this class we
create a digital portfolio using Power Point. Digital images are taken all
year and time is spent in the computer room throughout the year.

Studio in Advanced Ceramics is a full year class taken after Studio in
Art in Ceramics. More time is taken to develop throwing techniques. Hand
building and glaze understanding are also major components, a sketchbook is
required. A digital portfolio will be created using student created digital
images and Microsoft Powerpoint.

Advanced Studies in Ceramics is taken upon successful completion of Advanced
Ceramics and with permission of the teacher. A grade of A or B in Advanced is
is required for the student to create quality work in the Advanced Studies
class. Students are encouraged to incorporate more decision making into their
work developing a personal style. A sketchbook is required as well as
continuous digital images will be taken to create a portfolio of their work
using Microsoft Power Point. A senior show at the Festival of the Arts is
the final exam for this class as well as showing work within the building.
