Global History and Geography 2009/2010
Welcome to Global History and Geography. Global History and Geography is a
two year course. Students are in their second year of Global History. In
June, students will take a Regents Exam which includes 9th and 10th grade
Global Studies.
Classroom Rules:
1. Be on time to class. Students must be in their seat when the bell
rings. Walking in the classroom when the bell rings does not count.
2. Be prepared. Bring the necessary materials to class. The “Do Now” and
the homework will be posted on the board or the Smart Board every day.
Make sure you complete the “Do Now.”
3. Homework will be given on a regular basis. Homework needs to be on your
desk when the bell rings.
4. Respect the rights and dignity of others and their property.
5. Observe and follow all the rules as stated in the John Jay’s Code of
conduct.
6. Misbehaving, excessive talking, excessive lateness, doing no
work, and excessive or rude conduct will result in a phone
call home and after school detention(s).
Consequences:
1. If any of the classroom rules are not followed, the first time you will
be given a warning.
2. The second time, I will call your parent/ guardian.
3. The third time you will receive a phone call home and an after
school detention with the after school detention teacher or myself.
4. If you are late to my class three times, you will receive an after
school
detention and a phone call home.
Necessary Materials:
Each student is required to have a 1” or 1.5” binder, two pens, two pencils,
looseleaf paper, a highlighter, and a pack of index cards. I will check to
see that you have the necessary materials. This will count as a homework
assignment. Also, the classroom rules need to be signed by a parent/
guardian and returned the next school day. I will check them tomorrow.
This
will count as a homework assignment.
Grading: 60% Tests, Quizzes, and Projects
20% Homework
20% Classwork and Participation
Tests, Quizzes, and Projects: We will review before a test or quiz.
However, it is the student’s responsibility to review the material at home
before the test or quiz. Anything covered in class, the student is
responsible for. This includes notes, articles, classwork, group
activities,
readings, and classroom discussions. Students will be given a review sheet
that they need to complete and know for tests and quizzes.
Homework: Homework will be assigned on a regular basis and checked on the
day it is due. Late homework will not be accepted unless you were absent on
the day the homework was assigned or absent on the day the homework was
due.
Late essays and projects will be accepted but points will be deducted. If
you were absent on the day the homework was assigned or checked, it is the
student’s responsibility to get the homework and show the teacher the
completed homework the next school day.
Classwork and Participation: Classwork and participation make up 20% of the
grade. Students are expected to complete classwork and try their best every
day. It is expected that students take notes, complete worksheets, and
participate in large and small group activities, and class discussions.
Students also need to be cooperative during class.
