HOMEWORK

Your homework can be found on Webassign.net. On the 1st day of class you will
receive a "Class Key" which will allow you to create an account with a login
username and password on Webassign (write these down in a safe place). DO THIS
ONLY ONCE. If you have a problem logging in after doing this, please see me.
DO NOT CREATE ANOTHER NEW LOGIN. WCSD rules regarding website use apply here,
even if you are working on your home computer. Please be aware that all web
sessions keep a record of your IP address and activity.

There is a weekly assignment due on webassign. REMEMBER that Webassign is
HOMEWORK. Some time will be alloted for webassign in class during
the week, so that you can work on your assignment with your peers and with my
help. Unfortunately for physics classes, new John Jay school policy has
severely restricted physics use of the computer lab to 2 periods a month, so
if you need to, you will have to find time to use the computer in school
during your free periods, after school in the classroom, or in the library if
need be when your home computer is a problem.

I set up Webassign usually so that you have 15 submissions per question
without penalty. You will receive immediate feedback as to whether your answer
is correct (everyone LOVES that green check for a correct answer). If after
trying a problem, let's say 4 times and your answer is wrong, don't drive
yourself nutty with it, go back to the text book, look over your notes
and then bring it to me for some advice.

YOU MUST PACE YOURSELF. YOU HAVE PHYSICS HOMEWORK EVERY DAY, SO DO SOME
PHYSICS HOMEWORK EVERY DAY.

There are 2 dates to understand -

the COMPLETE date, and the DUE date.

The COMPLETE date is the date that the webassign is due in class, written
out on paper IN THE PROBLEM SOLUTIONS SECTION OF YOUR NOTEBOOK following the
proper format. If you are unable to do a particular question, draw a diagram
of the problem, and at least setup the preliminary solution with the variables
listed. I am very willing to help you, and direct you to the right conceptual
path to solve a problem, or model a similar problem, but I will not solve the
problem for you.

More about extra help:

When you come for extra help, do not come empty handed! Please bring a copy of
the question, your sketch of the question, and your listing of obvious variables.

You can ask questions and ask for help in class on the complete date, but
don't expect that all the questions can be covered in one class session. If
you find that you have many questions, please come to see me during a mutually
agreed upon period, or after school.

The DUE date is the LAST DAY that your answers can be uploaded no later than
10PM. If you procrastinate you may get stuck on some questions and because the
time for questions or extra help has been exhausted expect to receive a
failing grade on the assignment Remember to... PACE YOURSELF!

Using this system, most students can earn nearly 100% on their homework grade.
Using the old fashioned way, it was either right or wrong without any 2nd
chances, and you had to wait days to know whether your answers were right or
not. NOW you can know immediately if you answer is right, and there are 15
chances on top of that!!!
