How can my child get academic extra help?
Extra help is available after school as follows:
Tuesday: World Languages (WL), Social Studies (SS) & Art
Wednesday: English, Tech. Ed., Science & Music
Thursday: Math & Health
In addition, most teachers are willing to provide extra help at other times
such as early mornings and lunch. Please contact your child's teacher(s) if
you need additional information. The above schedule is subject to change.
Does JJHS offer a S.A.T. Prep. Course?
The school doesn't offer an S.A.T. Prep. course, but there are many classes
offered throughout the local area. Talk to your guidance counselor to obtain

JJHS does offer 2 limited enrollment Driver's Ed. classes each year: one in
the fall and another one in the spring. For further information, please

Please contact the JJHS office if you have a question about your child's
school photo. Unlike the other schools, there is no parent in charge of
How can we figure out the best courses for next year?
The course selection handbook is available on the district website.
Registration will take place toward the end of February. In the meantime,
guidance counselors are meeting with students to help them make appropriate
choices. At the same time, teachers are working on recommendations for each
student which will be available usually during the first week of February. If you have any questions,
you are urged to contact the Guidance Office. There will be a PTO meeting
dedicated solely to course selection.
How many AP courses should my child take as an upperclassman?
The question of whether your child takes any AP courses is a very individual
one and should be discussed with your child's guidance counselor.
Generally, however, students should take AP courses in subject areas for
which they have a passion.
What is VARSITY OPTION?
Varsity Option is a policy whereby Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors can get
an exemption from P.E. classes during the season in which they participate on a
Varsity sports team, based on the following sliding scale: Sophomores: 1
season; Juniors: 2 seasons; Seniors: 3 seasons.
When do we find out which teachers will be teaching which courses?
This happens in the May/June time frame. Logistical issues make this
difficult to determine any earlier in the year.
Can my child just hang out after school and take the Activity Bus home?
No. In order to ride on an Activity Bus, a child needs a note from a
teacher and/or librarian verifying that he/she was involved in a structured
after school activity (which includes studying at the library).
