Hello Parents!
Welcome back! We are now halfway through the second quarter. At this time, you should be checking in with your son or daughter and getting a sense of how they are doing in class. If you would like to contact me about how they are doing, you may do so through phone or email.
Currently in class we will be reading the novel Monster, by Walter Dean Meyers. The novel, which is written in the form of a movie screen play, focuses on the character of Stephen, a sixteen year old African-American Harlem resident who is arrested with a group of friends during a grocery store robbery gone awry. Students WILL NOT have take home reading during this time, but they will complete several journal entries, as well as both creative and persuasive pieces.
Since there will be minimal homework during this time, students will be expected to choose an age appropriate fiction book and read it by Friday, February 12th. Please see the "Homework" section for more details.
