Adolescent Psychology Course Syllabus

CODE H790

HALF YEAR (9-12)

1/2 CREDIT

PREREQUISITE: NONE

Areas of study include:

  • The adolescent’s place in the family unit
  • Ways in which the adolescent relates to persons older and younger
  • Understanding the developmental characteristics of adolescence
  • Developing skills for dealing with problems
  • Investigation of fields of study and career possibilities related to human development

This course provides the student the opportunity to explore the physical, social and emotional characteristics that occur during adolescent years. It also allows for investigation of fields of study and career paths related to working with adolescents and issues surrounding them.

Assessment: Assessment is based on quizzes, exams, lab assignments, daily participation and demonstrated skill.

Classroom Expectations and Procedures:

Attendance: Please refer to the Code of Conduct Appendix A

  • Students need to arrive to class on time, prepared and ready to

Activities/Projects Unique to this Class:

  • Students will be using Power Media Plus, as well as other resources, to help them design a classroom project where they research and discuss a teen issue.

Recommended/Required Materials for Class:

  • Three-ring binder (1 inch), 3 dividers, and loose leaf paper
  • It is imperative that you turn in a computer lab agreement

Grading Procedures:

By Quarter:

  • Class work/Homework: 30%
  • Projects/Participation: 40%
  • Tests/Quizzes: 30%

For the Semester: Each Quarter is worth 2/5th of the final grade with a cumulative final worth 1/5th of the final grade.

Grading Procedures:

  • Late assignments will not be accepted after 5 days past the due date. Points will be subtracted from each late assignment based on a rate of 10% per day.
