World of Fashion Course Syllabus

Half Year (9-12)

½ Semester Credit

Prerequisite: None

The goal of this course is to expand the student’s awareness of fashion history, introduce the basic skills of fashion drawing, and provide an opportunity to apply the principles and elements of design in fashion and style projects. The World of Fashion course offers the student an opportunity to explore the role of fashion in everyday life, develop a sense of personal style, and explore careers related to the fashion industry.

 

Assessment: Assessment is based on authentic assessments, laboratories, exams, quizzes, projects, observations, public speaking, written reflections and portfolios.

Classroom Expectations and Procedures:

  • Attendance: Please refer to the Code of Conduct Apendix A

  • Students need to arrive to class on time, prepared and ready to work.

Activities/Projects Unique to this Class:

  • Students will be researching fashion timelines
  • Students will be researching fashion information and designers
  • Students will be using fashion elements to create doll apparel
  • Students will be creating fashion projects unique to their own style
  • Students will be keeping a portfolio
  • Students will be designing their own fashion magazine as a final exam

 

Recommended and Required Materials for the Class:

  • Sketch book to be used as a portfolio (11X14) spiral bound
  • Sketch pencils
  • Number two pencils
  • Fine point black marker
  • Three ring binger (1inch), 3 dividers, and loose leaf paper
  • It is imperative that you turn in a computer lab agreement

 

Grading Procedures:

By Quarter:

  • Class work/homework: 30%
  • Labs/Participation: 40%
  • Tests/Quizzes: 30%

 

Grading Procedures continued:

By Semester:

  • Each Quarter is worth 2/5th of the final grade
  • Final Exam Project will be worth 1/5th of the final grade
