FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
How can I get help on a homework assignment if I'm not in school? There are several things you can do if you find yourself in this situation! First, take a deep breath. Next, take another (careful) look at the assignment's directions. Sometimes you miss important details when you read quickly or are in a panic! Once you've looked at the directions again, if you still don't understand you can e-mail me (I check my e-mail 1-2 per evening) or you could try calling a classmate for help. Don't underestimate the knowledge of your friends! Your other option would be asking a parent/guardian for assistance. They know much more than you think they do! Please refer to the Homework Policy posted in the English 10 documents section. What will I need for class each day? You will need to bring your binder (complete with loose leaf paper and dividers), your folder, a writing utensil, and the novel (or other literary work) that we are currently studying. What happens if I forget my materials for class? You don't want to know. No, really....YOU DON'T! How much homework can I expect? While we're reading a novel, you can expect to have nightly reading assignments. You can expect AT LEAST one extended writing assignment per week. You will also have weekly vocabulary lists, with a quiz each Friday. You can study these words nightly to ensure success on that quiz! Ahhhh...this is an excellent question! I wish more people would ask this! First of all, you speak English every single day, and knowing how to do it correctly is VERY helpful. Learning grammar rules, writing skills, and reading skills will help you in many ways. You can use these skills when filling out job and college applications, writing letters (Yes, some people still do that!), communicating with prospective employers, creating any piece of written text, reading and writing for pleasure (or pain, if that is the emotion you attach to it), and participating in our economy. The bottom line is this: If you can't read and write well, it is very difficult to be successful. |
