Re: Leadership Workshop, “Informance,” and Cookie Dough Fund Raiser

We will begin our annual cookie dough fundraiser on Monday, September 21.
Students will bring home brochures and instructions for the sale. The money
raised from this event is used to enhance the experience of being in an
instrumental ensemble at Ketcham High School. In the past, we have used this
money to purchase chairs, lockers, percussion instruments, music, trips, and
many other items.

The orders will be due back on Monday, October 5. Patrons may make checks
payable to “RCK Band.” The orders will arrive in November- I will know about
a week in advance the exact date. Room 107 will be open until 6:00 that
evening to facilitate delivery. All items must be picked-up that day as we
have no way to keep items frozen in the music wing. If you can assist with
student pick-up of products, please e-mail me. Please deliver your items
quickly to your customers. Remember to thank them again for supporting RCK
Music!

On Thursday, October 1st, Ron Sutherland will be presenting a leadership
workshop for our students and their parents. Mr. Sutherland was the band
director of the highly acclaimed Clarence High School Wind Ensemble and has
been a guest conductor throughout the country. The workshop will focus on
giving to others through communication, concern, and actions. He will also
discuss how to cope with our fear of failure, fear of success, and fear of
speaking in public. The workshop will be 7:00-9:00 in the RCK Auditorium.
Since all music students are leaders within their ensemble, attendance is
mandatory for 9th Grade Band members. I highly encourage parents to come as
well, as I think everyone will both enjoy and benefit from Mr. Sutherland’s
presentation.

An “Informance” is a band class where guests sit inside the ensemble and
experience what it is like to be a member of a performing group. This year’s
theme is “Effective and Efficient Practicing.” The session will be
Wednesday, October 14th in room 107 beginning at 7:00 and last about 45
minutes. Students are required to attend and all parents are invited. Seating
is limited due to space, so RSVP quickly either by e-mail or using the form
below.

Please contact me if you need clarification on any of these events.
