Through my various experiences with art, and art education, I have
acquired the tools necessary to inspire young artists, produce creative,
quality art, and to genuinely appreciate art. It is my belief that the arts
are essential to a true education. The Art Teacher is the link to the
creative and expressive soul of the student. I hope to bring to students:
confidence, excitement, and a student centered philosophy. I hold students
to very high standards and find that they internalize those standards. I
believe in fulfilling New York State standards as well, because these
guidelines help to foster competent and well-educated individuals.
Hopefully this web page will offer insights as to who I am as a teacher
and what my views are in regards to teaching philosophy, and lesson
planning. I use a variety of teaching strategies to cater to the needs of
the multiple intelligences that my students possess. I care very deeply
about my students as artists and as individuals. I strive to educate every
student in a positive learning environment.
Sincerely,
Mrs.Roa
ART EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY___________________
I love the spontaneity and creativity of the young mind. When I was
younger I always had a crayon or colored pencil in my hand. Everyone always
knew I would become an artist in some capacity, little did they know I would
have the passion to pass my knowledge on to others. For as long as I can
remember, I have thought teaching is the most honorable profession in the
world. After all is it not the teachers who educate our doctors, lawyers,
and stockbrokers. Teachers are the individuals who have made the greatest
impression; they helped shape my life.
I am devoted, dedicated, and enthusiastic when working with
children. I love getting excited about art, and passing that excitement on
to my students. Just seeing a student accomplish something they never
deemed possible makes me realize I can make a difference in a child’s life.
I believe in art and everything art stands for. It is not just about making
beautiful objects; it’s about expression, learning, and building confidence,
and critical thinking skills.
Art encompasses many subjects and can be used as an
interdisciplinary tool. Art explores the world of history, and examines the
world’s different cultures. Art history provides a framework for students
to comprehend and recognize the influences of art, and can strengthen a
student’s capacity and intention to produce his or her own art.
Since art education involves thinking critically, one can learn to
describe a piece of art using appropriate terms. It is comparing,
contrasting, categorizing, and interpreting an artwork and judging it in
relation to one’s self and society.
But above all, art education is for the students, some of whom may
find in the art room a place for success and confidence. For others it is a
respite, a time for introspection where imagination and expressive skills
can be developed. Still others enjoy the mastering of skills and the self-
discipline that it involves. Then there are students who love art just for
arts sake. Whatever a students reason for creating a piece of art may be;
they all deserve a supportive environment with a teacher who can help
develop their strengths as individuals, as well as part of a learning
community.
