Friday Footnotes

Mrs. Champagne

November 20, 2009

We read many stories and learned many interesting facts about owls this week.  We learned where they live, what and how they eat, and when they are most active.  We even had a chance to look at the contents of a pellet an owl coughed up.  Most students found owls to be amazing birds.

We enjoyed our author study of Lois Ehlert.  We read many stories by her throughout the week.  We were able to identify many similar characteristics in her books and see how her style differs from other authors.  We had a chance to use real items from nature to make pictures just as Lois Ehlert does.  We also had a chance to use fancy scissors and colorful paper to make Lois Ehlert inspired pictures.  They can out beautifully.

Our first “Mystery Reader” was a great success.  Mrs. Hempstead read us a great Lois Ehlert book.   Thank you Mrs. Hempstead!

We continued to practice rhyming words, patterns, and printing our numbers 1-10.

Our theme next week will be life around the time of the first Thanksgiving.

Our “popcorn words” this week were “see” and “my”.  We will not have new words next week since we are only in school for two days.  Please continue to help your child find these in their daily reading, signs, or any other print.

Don’t forget to keep track of your daily reading for the Pizza Hut certificate.  You may send it in whenever you child has reached the goal.  They are due by Monday, November 30th.
