Mrs. Champagne
December 18, 2009
We have enjoyed learning about the author Jan Brett and have read many books she has written. In fact, she has written so many books that we will continue reading books by her next week as well. We found her borders intriguing and her illustrations full of detail.
We read two versions of a story called The Mitten. We did a compare and contrast activity, voted on our favorite version and made the characters for our favorite version for a story retell.
We started getting ready for the 1st day of winter by reading about what animals do in the winter time.
We had great time learning about magnets. We experimented with different types of objects to see what the magnets would stick to. We learned about the two poles found on a magnet; north and south, and we learned the words attract and repel.
We also learned about the holiday of Hanukah being celebrated this week. Mrs. Lieberman taught us the dreidel game and we all had a chance to play it.
We will continue the Jan Brett theme into next week and talk about other holidays celebrated in December such as Christmas and Kwanzaa.
Our “popcorn words” this week were “to” and “go”. Please continue to help your child find these in their daily reading, signs, or any other print.
Mrs. Jones, our lunch teacher was our mystery reader today. She read us a Jan Brett story, Berlioz the Bear.
