Friday Footnotes

Mrs. Champagne

November 13, 2009

We continued our rhyming theme throughout the week.  We played rhyming games, matched rhyming pictures, read rhyming books and made rhymes whenever we could.  Please continue to help your child identify and make rhyming words at home.

We learned all about opposites and played many games using opposites.

We worked on identifying and printing number 0 through 10.

We learned a song to help us remember how to form the numbers.

Our theme next week will be a Lois Ehlert author study.  We will read many books written and illustrated by Lois Ehlert.  Then we will try to create some projects in the style of Lois Ehlert.  We will also learn about a fascinating nocturnal bird; the owl.

We have been begun learning the Kindergarten sight words.  In our class we call them the “popcorn words” because they pop up all over the place.  Many students are able to read the four words I have introduced so far.  They are: the, a, I, is.  Please help your child find these in their daily reading, signs, or any other print.

Don’t forget to keep track of your daily reading for the Pizza Hut certificate.  You may send it in whenever you child has reached the goal.  They are due by Monday, November 30th.  Remember this will take the place of weekly homework.  Skills papers sent home are for extra practice and do not need to be sent back into school unless your child wants to show it to me.
