This WebQuest was designed typically for 2nd grade students, but I'm sure it
can easily be altered to fit almost any grade from K-4. The purpose of
this WebQuest is to make the students aware of plants and their life cycle.
The students should also know the parts of a plant and flower upon
completion of the WebQuest. There are many other subject areas incorporated
into this WebQuest aside from science. Creative writing skills are practiced
through the use of the students' "Botanists Journals". As a teacher, you can
combine the students' writing with creativeness and actual facts about the
plants the students are studying. Math is also incorporated into this
WebQuest because the students will be using basic measuring skills while
measuring the length and width of the flowers. Overall, this WebQuest is
fun, challenging, and invigorating for the students. It needs to be done in
the spring time so that you can plant flowers and you can bring in different
types of flowers for the students to examine. The flower mobiles come out
wonderful in the end, and the students really love showing off their work! I
hope you are to use this WebQuest some day, and I wish you and your class the
best of luck!
