Can you believe how fast the time is going?  The children should have already mastered some pretty important words... a, I, the, go, to, see, and, my, can.  Please work hard this week on making sure that the children know these words solidly. Learning more words can only get more difficult if they haven't mastered the early words.  Make sure you point out beginning and ending letters that will help them identify the words. Have your child spell the words out loud or on paper. Move the words around to make silly sentences and add family names of your own to the words they do know and please, please have your child read the little books to you over and over again. The white books are a result of a grant from the PTO. I wrote the books so your child would have books to practice with every day.  I am having children who haven't mastered the words read the books to an adult at school every day I can but this is not enough.

Remember that we have no school on Wednesday.  Also, if your child is sick on a Monday, I do try to update the homework on this site over the weekend. If your child is up to it, the homework is available online.

We have been working on patterns: AB, ABB, and ABC. The children have done a great job.  To practice at home, you might use  small items. For example an AB pattern might be: penny, dime, penny, dime.  An ABB pattern might be:fork, spoon, spoon, fork, spoon, spoon. An ABC pattern might be pencil, crayon, marker, pencil, crayon, marker.  A fun way to represent patterns is to use movement: stamp, jump, stamp, jump (AB)... clap, snap, snap, clap, snap, snap (ABB)... clap, touch your shoulders, touch your head, clap, touch your shoulders, touch your head (ABC).

Most importantly of all, please read to your children and talk about what you read. Did they like the story? What character did they like the most? What was their favorite part?

Enjoy!
