FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Do I need to send a snack to kindergarten? NO! Please do not send any food unless I ask you for it. We have new guidelines about the food that be given out in class due to the tremendous rise in childhood obesity. We don't have snack every day! Do you give snacks to the children? Yes! I will be sending a note home asking you to send in snacks for one week. You might send in a box of Cheerios, a bag of low sodium pretzels or a box of graham crackers. We will be a peanut free class this year. Please check all labels. What if my child doesn't like your snack? At the beginning of the year, I will offer your child an alternative snack if he doesn't like what is being offered. By the middle of the year, the children are offered one snack. If they don't like something, they simply say "no thank you". Our day is very short. Children who are hungry usually eat the snack and often find out they do like graham crackers. Others just wait to get home. What do I do if I have a problem with my child? Please email me or call me at home. I always give out my home phone number and I would rather you called me rather than worry all night. What do I do if my child is absent? Call the school and let them know. The MPES number will give you the attendance office number to call. My child is having a hard time with homework, what should I do? Sometimes children are overtired or just can't do homework one night. Help him/her determine a plan, I'll do it tomorrow morning or we will wait till the weekend to do it. My child works very very slowly. Homework takes forever! Homework should not be a punishment and it should be accomplished fairly quickly. If your child takes a long time, stop after 10 minutes or so and jot me a note. Make sure that there are no distractions (easier said than done) in your child's work area. Little hands do get stronger as the year progresses. I would like to help out in class. How can I do that? At the Parent NIght, I will have sign up sheets for you to sign if you'd like to help in class. Unfortunately, I need people who will commit to helping every week. If several people sign up for the same day, I divide the year up and have one parent come from October through January etc. I can't come in every week! Can I still come in to help. I often have activities where I need extra hands. I will try to include those dates in my Newsletter. You would then send me a note and let me know you are available. My child is being taken out of the class every day for 20 minutes! The children are frequently assessed. Those who fall below a certain criteria will spend 20 minutes each day working in a small group on skills. The groups are fluid and many of the children will get the opportunity to work outside the classroom depending on their needs. I don't celebrate birthdays etc. due to a religious preference! Pleaase let me know if you there are any special considerations I need to know about. Children who do not "celebrate" will participate in another classroom during those times. Why can't I come to all the parties? I have a limit of 5 adults who are allowed in my classroom during parties. This is for the safety of the children. Your class mom will call and remind you of the party you are scheduled to attend. Which class party can I go to? There will be a party sign up at Parent NIght. Please sign up for only one party. Do the children go on the playground? Yes! I try to go outside on most nice days. Will the children use the computers? YES! We are hoping to walk to the Patterson Firehouse, Library and Post Office. We also have a wonderful trip to Cascade Farm. Please note that younger siblings are not invited on these outings. Sorry:( |
