Math 5

Overview:
This year in math, students will study a variety of topics. They will begin
with place value and number theory. They will extensively work with long
division and multiplication and move into fraction and decimal concepts. We
also will study geometry and work with graphs and statistics.

Help Opportunities:
I expect that some units will be harder for some students and other units
will be easier. I am available for extra help on Tuesdays and Fridays
during Flex Period and during band. I am also available after school and
during lunch. Students need to arrange a time to meet with me when they are
struggling.

Under the links page, you will find websites that offer practice for the
units we are studying.

Homework:
Students should expect homework in math almost every night. It is important
to their success that the math homework be fully completed each evening. It
allows them the opportunity to practice and apply what we are working on.
In their notebooks there are detailed notes taped in for each lesson. There
are also examples for them to refresh their memory. If you find your child
is spending more than 20-25 minutes on homework and are not procrastinating,
please stop your child and sign the homework. This signals to me that your
child is struggling and may need some reteaching.
