Recorder Karate! Hi-yah!!

In third grade, we continue to build upon the music literacy foundation that has been laid in Kindergarten through Second Grade. In addition to adding more complicated rhythms and solfege patterns, we begin playing the recorder! The recorder is an excellent tool to further music reading skills as it requires students to be able to read rhythms and notes names and then produce them on an instrument. 

In class, we play Recorder Karate! As skills are mastered by students they earn a variety of colored "belts" they can then tie on their recorder. By the end of the year they'll have a rainbow of "belts" showing how much they've learned!
