COMPUTER USE
1. Passwords may not be shared; violators chance losing their computer
privilege for an unspecified period of time.
2. Computers are used only for school assignments.
3. All floppy disks; including flash drives, jump drives, thumb drives; USB
disk readers for memory sticks, SD cards, etc.; or CDs; brought from home
MUST be scanned for virus’ prior to use in school computers. Failure to do
so may result in loss of your account.
HELPFUL POINTERS
1.To find authentic information on the Web, check for the following:
a. Does the Internet article list an author? Are the author’s
credentials stated? Are they reliable?
b. Look for a current publication date.
c. Use the rule of 2 or 3 which means, if you can find one Internet
article, you can locate 2-3 additional Internet articles to support the
information found. IF NOT, the article may contain biased and misleading
information. Reminder: Check URLs for tildes in an .edu address; these are
personal articles placed on the Web, which are often just someone’s opinion
(biased, one-sided view), and is not necessarily supported by the
University.
2. Find other supporting information in books, periodicals and other
resources.
3. Since many Web articles can be 30, 80, or 100 or more pages long;
students are required to copy and paste all Web information, assessed as
relative to the assignment, into a Word document before printing. If you
have not previously learned this procedure, ask the librarian to show you
how.
4. REMINDER, printing from the Web wastes paper, it wastes printer ink,
and it prevents other students from having an opportunity to print.
Any printing from the Web requires prior permission from the Librarian.
5. Search the NOVEL (New York Online Virtual Electronic Library) databases
and the MONTI HIGH databases for current and accurate information. All
usernames, and passwords are listed in the Monti High Library brochure,
which may be used in school or by remote access from home. See Mrs. Hill
for a password brochure.
All computers should be used responsibly.
