How do I make up participation points that I have lost?

Participation points cannot be made up. However, throughout the
course of a marking period there will be several opportunities
for you to earn enrichment points which get added in to your
participation points. This effectively cancels out the
corresponding number of lost participation points. There are two
standing enrichment opportunities involving meeting attendance
and community service hours for PAF and Government and extra
article summaries for SOC. There are also various short term, or
spur of the moment opportunities. I often look to reward exemplary
class participation, particularly insightful observations or
random acts of kindness with enrichment points!!

How can I get in touch with you if I have any questions?

The best way to get in touch with me is via email at
mlauri@k12mcsd.net . I can check email during the school day as
well as from home so this is the most consistent way to reach me
and get a quick reply.

If you choose to friend me on facebook that is another good way
to get in touch with me by either writing on my wall or sending
me a message.

If parents/guardians feel they must speak with me directly I
would recommend emailing me to arrange a time for a phone call
during the school day. I will generally be available for phone
calls from 9:15-10:00 and 2:10 to 2:30 every day. My
voicemail extension is 10213 if you would like to call and leave
a message and I can get back to you later.

Students who wish to speak with me can come to my office in room
213 anytime other than when I am in class.

How do I know if a community service site is acceptable?

Any place that you want to do your community service must be a
non-profit, charitable organization (no government offices, no
military etc.). If you have any questions you should see me
before you begin the community service project. You should have
a completed and approved (by me) community service proposal form
before you begin any community service hours.

Do you stay up nights thinking of ways to torture us?

No. While I do stay up late at night it is generally to do
things that I want to do. Thinking of ways to torture you comes
fairly easily to me so there is no need to stay up late at night
thinking about it.

Is there any way to bribe you to get out of doing work?

Not unless you are very, very wealthy. If I allowed you to bribe
me I would no doubt lose my job. Therefore the amount of the
bribe would have to be enough to put my children through college
and support me in the lifestyle to which I would then become
accustomed. It is doubtful that any of you have that kind of
cash on hand. (I certainly wouldn't take a check!) It would be a
far better investment to just do the work.

Since I can't bribe you, when are you available for extra help?

I am generally available every day, except Tuesday meeting days,
after school from 2:15 to 3:15. (usually later) I will also try
to work around your schedule and mine to see if there are other
mutually agreeable times.

If appropriate, you may also want to take advantage of the
services offered in the Student Support Suite in room 208.

Were you as diligent and responsible as a student as you expect us to be?

Absolutely not!! (My college roommates are laughing right now
and have no idea why!!) But you are all going to learn from my
mistakes whether you like it or not!!

Is it your mission in life to destroy us?

Destroy is such an ugly word...let's just say that I think the
Marine Corps have a great program...break down and rebuild...
