Are all children tested for speech problems?
All kindergarteners are screened upon entering school. Other children are
tested following referral by a teacher or parent and written parental
permission has been received.
What services are available?
Speech Improvement classes are available in grades K-2. Speech Therapy is
available after that if indicated and approved by the Committee on Special
Education or the 504 Committee.
What do test scores mean?
The tests used are age normed. This means a child in Kindergarten is
measured against children their own age. A six year old's speech is never
compared with and older child or a "perfect" model. Speech/language
acquisition is a developmental process.
