You find yourself living in a tumultuous time for the British
colonies in America. The differences are dividing you and your
neighbors, you and your relatives at home in England, as well as
dividing the individual colonies.
As a historian and journalist, your task is to interview a
representative from each of the three groups involved in the American
Revolution:
- The Patriots (those Declaring Independence)
- The British Monarchy (King George)
- The Loyalists (those remaining loyal to the King)
You must make a transcript of each interview (minimum 8 questions per
interview). Prior to conducting the interview, it is important that
you are knowledgeable about the time period. You are encouraged to
utilize the websites given, primary source readers in class, as well
as your text to locate information that will inform you of the time
period as well as support each of the three perspectives.
After careful review of the handout "British Acts" (given in class)
and completion of the interviews, you must choose a viewpoint on
the "rebellion" as the basis for an editorial which will appear in
both Colonial and British newspapers.
An editorial is an article that takes a particular viewpoint, but
also cites factual information to support that viewpoint. Since your
article will be public information, your words may be considered
treason and may cost you your life. Choose your words carefully.
