Tuesday, 1/3/2012HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Welcome back to school after a wonderful holiday break!  I hope everyone had a restful, relaxing, and joyful vacation :)
We are right back into the swing of things...

Our class has so much going on!
Before the break, each student chose a community place to study, write about and construct.
Our class voted on the name of our community:  Super City.  We are excited to start working on what will be a masterpiece!  Details about our community celebration (in late January or early February) will follow.

We have been busy weighing objects on our self constructed equal arm balances and today we are graphing the results of our findings!  We have been reasoning and discussing why certain objects weigh more than others.

In reading, we are about to begin our Fancy Folder Book Reports.  We will be able to tie in all our knowledge of literary elements such as setting, characters and traits, problems and solutions.

Today's trip to the Glen Head Firehouse was informative, exciting, and fun!  We got to go inside an ambulance to learn about the equipment the first responders use.  We also had a chance to walk through a firetruck!  The class was lucky enough to witness two calls while we were there, and saw how the crew races off to help people in need.  A big thank you goes out to our volunteer firefighters who are such a special and important part of our community!
Photos of our trip will be posted to the gallery soon :)

The Library walk and Post Office trip were great learning opportunities that the children enjoyed!  Thank you to Mrs. O'Sullivan, Mrs. Bartlett, Mrs. Getelman, and Mrs.Mullen for joining us and helping to make the event special :)

Today is the walking trip to the Gold Coast Public Library!  We are lucky that this morning's drizzle dried up and should have a great time on our trip :)

2nd Grade has started off wonderfully!

Our community walk was a great learning experience and we had beautiful weather.

We were able to point out and photograph things and places that serve our community's wants and needs.

In math, we are working on our doubles facts as well as addition number stories.

Stay Tuned for more updates on 2C!
