November 9, 2010:  Community Scrapbook Due FRIDAY!!!  Physical scrapbooks 
should include:

           1) Prologue

           2) 8-12 artifacts explained

           3) Creative element (song, artwork, plan for demonstration)

           4) Reflection


November 3, 2010:  Start brainstorming "artifacts" for your Cultural 
Community Project.  Be sure to ask your families for help; they are a great 
resource!!!! 

October 13, 2010: Period 3:  Read The Misfits Chapter 7

October 12, 2010:  Period 3/4, Read Misfits Chapter 5 and 6

                   Period 5:  finsih your quote responses

September 28, 2010:  We are wokring on our Seedfolks Citizenship Awards in 
class.  Please continue brainstorming at home to make class time more 
productive!

September 21, 2010:  Summer Reading Due Tomorrow!!!  Be sure it is stapled 
and ready to hand in before class.

September 16, 2010:  We will be working on the summer reading assignment in 
class, but the rough draft is due Monday for peer editing and final product 
will be due on Wednesday Sept 22.

September 13, 2010:  If you did not complete the "Summer Reading Pre-Writing 
Sheet" in class, please do so for homework.

We will begin writing the Summer Reading Writing Assigment in-class on 
Tuesday.  Feel free to work on it at home.















November 9, 2009- We are currently working on The Pearl essay in class.  Use 
the time wisely and you will only need to edit at home.  Final copy due 
Friday November 13, 2009.

October 28, 2009- Finish Chapter 4 of The Pearl.  Don't worry about the study 
questions tonight, just read the chapter for discussion.

October 26, 2009- Finish Chapter 3 with the guided questions in The Pearl

Answer the following questions as you read Chapter 3.  

1. What does Kino hope for now that he owns the Pearl of the World? 

2. Explain what quotation means? What does this reveal about Kino? 
“He was trapped as his people were always trapped, and would be until, as he 
had said, they could be sure that the things in the books were really in the 
books. He could not take a chance-not with the life or with the straightness 
of Coyotito” (30).
	

3. What are your thoughts about the medicine the doctor gave Coyotito? 


4. Where does Kino first hide the pearl? 

5. Where is the second hiding place? 

6. Passage What happened in the middle of the night:  
“Kino could feel warm blood running from his forehead, and he could hear 
Juana calling to him. ‘Kino! Kino!’ And there was terror in her voice. Then 
coldness came over him as quickly as the rage had, and he said, ‘I am all 
right. The thing has gone’ (38).
	



6. What does Juana want Kino to do with the pearl?

October 23, 2009- Finish your extended metaphor poem / paragraph by Monday

                  Take a central metaphor and using relating imagery, extend 
that metaphor for 8-10 lines.  Please type and decorate (where appropriate).


October 14, 2009- The Pearl vocabulary, Chapters 1-2 due FRIDAY!

October 13, 2009- I hope you found a good book during Mr. Leif's book talk.  
Tomorrow we are starting The Pearl in class.

October 7, 2009- If you have not finished your "Goin' Fishin'" persuasive 
paragraph in class, it is due at the start of class tomorrow!

Sept 28-29: Prepare for Neckalce Mock Trial in class and at home.

Sept 22, 2009- Necklace vocabulary sheet
(ten words and sentences)

Sept 18, 2009- Summer reading paper due.  Typed, double spaced.
