What should I do if my child is absent?

Call and notify the school that your child will be absent. You can request
that missed work be sent home with a sibling/classmate, etc. Any missed
work should be completed at home and returned to school. Upon your child's
return to school, you need to send in a note explaining the absence.

Will the children be getting homework?

Students will have math and word study/spelling homework Monday through
Thursday. Students are also required to read at home for 15 (or more)
minutes each night. Students will receive a reading log each week. More
information will be given at Parents as Partners Night.

Does my child need a snack?

Yes. Your child should bring in water (no juice!) and TWO healthy snacks
each day (one for the morning and one for the afternoon). Fruit snacks,
fruit roll-ups, cookies, chips are NOT considered a healthy snack. Fruit,
cheese and crackers, pretzels, popcorn, granola bars, unsweetened cereal
and yogurt would be great.

What about birthday treats?

Send me a note as to when you will be bringing in birthday treats (cupcakes
and napkins work well--no juice). You can either send these in with your
child, or drop everything off in the main office and I will pick them up.

Going home on different bus?

Send in a note regarding which bus your child needs to be placed on. They
will receive a yellow bus pass which will be given to the bus driver.

time.

What is the procedure when money is sent in to school?

During the year, you may be sending money for field trips, class
parties, etc. Please put any money in an envelope, write your child's name
on the envelope as well as what the money is for.

What about book orders?

Almost every month, I will be sending home a book order. A due date will be
written on the order form. Please do not send cash or write checks out to
me. Checks should accompany the order form and should be made out to the
book club (please place these in an envelope as well, marked Book Order).

What happens when my child gets sick in school?

Your child will be sent to the nurse. If the nurse feels it is necessary,
she will call home and arrange for you to pick your child up (very important
for emergency cards to be up to date). Please do not send your child to
school if he/she had a fever the night before (it is recommended that
children be fever free for 24 hours), threw up in the morning (or night
before), or has a really bad cough, runny nose, etc.

How/when can I contact my child's teacher?

I can be reached at school, 298-5280, and will always try to respond the
same day. You can also write me a note and I will either call or write
back. I will not have conversations or answer questions regarding your
child via e-mail (I do not always have the time to check my e-mail on a
daily basis).
