This is going to be a busy, busy week and a half.
During our Literacy Block, the children will identify,
practice writing correctly, and identify the sound of the letter Oo. The
children will also identify things that begin with Oo. I will point out that
the alphabet is made of many different forms of lines to make up a letter.
They will continue to practice writing their first names by themselves.
Show-and-Tell is Friday. Remember to bring in something that begins with O.
Please review the letters we learned already daily- Bb, Cc, Ff, Mm, Nn,
Tt, Ii, and Rr. We will also clap out the number of syllables in words.
We will also be doing a flow map to demonstrate the order of "The Gingerbread
Man" story.
In Math, we will work on identifying, writing, and counting the
numbers 1-7. We will be able to arrange the numbers in number order and
count backwards from 7. They will be working together in centers to complete
tasks: putting the correct amount of pompoms on Christmas trees and the
correct amount of marshmallows in the hot coco mugs. They will pick up the
marshmallows and pompoms with chopsticks only.
In Science, the children will continue to identify their five senses. They
will learn that their senses help them to enjoy the world around them. We
will continue to especially focus on the sense of smell. We will also
identify and act out times when we may use one or more of our senses.
In Social Studies, we will discuss needs and wants. They will identify what
a need vs. what a want is. We will be writing what we want Santa to bring
us. We will also identify the holiday Hanukkah. We will discuss the "Feast
of Lights" and what they mean. We will make menorahs and light each candle
each day. We will also identify the Season of Winter that begins next
Monday. We will make a Winter tree model.
We will continue to work hard this week on practicing our play for Barnes and
Noble-"The Gingerbread Man."
Reminder: Please remember to label everything. This includes lunch bags,
snack and sweaters.
We look forward to a fun-filled week with the children.
