My teaching career began in a 4th grade classroom in Arvada, Colorado. I taught at Weber Elementary
in Colorado until my husband and I relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota. I switched from the
intermediate grade-levels to the primary grades and taught primary multiage (first and second grades)
at Poplar Bridge Elementary in Bloomington, Minnesota. My husband completed his graduate school
program and found a position at SUNY Plattsburgh. We packed up our belongings and moved again -
this time with a cat and two daughters - and now I am thrilled to be back in 4th Grade here at Oak
Street Elementary.
When I am not at school I like to be curled up on the couch reading books or magazines, messing
around with a new cookie recipe in the kitchen, outside on a long run along beautiful Lake Champlain,
or with my favorite people - my husband Alex, my 4-year-old Harriet, and my 18-month-old Louise.
And though I don't like to admit it, you can probably catch me staying up too late watching reruns of
Law and Order on TNT. (I seriously think I would make a good homicide detective.)
I believe that all of my fourth graders have the capacity to learn and achieve. My goal is to create an
open, engaging learning community where the students' intellectual, social, emotional, and physical
needs are met so that they grow and enjoy their successes. We emphasize the importance of
organization and responsibility at this age, and I hope that the skills that are taught and practiced in
our classroom are applied throughout the children's long and rewarding educational careers. I invite
and strongly encourage our families and friends to support our efforts by joining us, working with us,
and extending our learning experiences beyond the classroom.
