Social Skills

Each morning the children and staff of the Oak Grove School recite the
following pledge:

I am ready to respect myself
Iam ready to respect others
I am ready to learn
I am ready to have a good day!

However, we sometimes do not stop to think about the meaning of these words.

Respect means taking care of ourselves. Get enough rest, eat healthy foods
and dress appropriately for the weather.

Respect means to treat others the way we would like to be treated. Respect
means no fighting and no put downs. Respect also means that we don't gossip
tell secrets or write notes about others. We do not leave others out. We are
careful about messages we deliver on the telephone or over the internet.
We all want to be included and we all deserve to feel respected in school.

Ready to learn means that we are ready to concentrate and focus on our
school work. Recreational and home activities need to be put aside when we
are in school so that we can focus on learning new skills.

Being ready to have a good day means that we are looking forward to new
learning and positive interactions with teachers and peers.
