BROTHER HENRY is a member of the MARIST BROTHERS RELIGIOUS ORDER and lives
on the property of Marist Brothers' Retreat Center in Esopus, New York. He
received his university degrees in BIOLOGY and GENERAL SCIENCES from MARIST
COLLEGE (BA) and FAIRFIELD UNIVERSITY (MA). He also holds a Minor in
CATHOLIC THEOLOGY and is a certified LEVEL IV CATECHIST of the Archdiocese
of New York.
Brother Henry is currently CHAIRPERSON OF THE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT at Our Lady
of Lourdes H.S. and teaches Honors Biology and AP/College Biology. In the
past he has also taught Regents Earth Science, Physical Science, Chemistry,
General Science and specialty courses in Advanced and College level Biology.
He holds Permanent New York State Certification for the instruction of
Biology and the other general Science disciplines. Brother has held
administrative and teaching positions in NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY, CONNECTICUT,
PENNSYLVANIA and LOUISIANA. He has 39 YEARS teaching and administrative
experience. He has held the position of Assistant Principal for Academics
at Bishop Carrol High School (PA), Assistant Principle for Discipline at
John A Coleman Catholic High School (NY) and has been Science Department
Chairperson in every school in which he has taught.
He has done THEOLOGICAL STUDIES in ROME, ITALY, earning post-graduate
credits and his CERTIFICATE OF MARIST SPIRITUALITY. He has traveled
extensively throughout Europe and the Holy Land and, in 1995, resided in
Rome, Italy for a six month period.
He has also studied Oceanography at the BERMUDA BIOLOGICAL STATION FOR
RESEARCH, in St. George, Bermuda, as part of his graduate studies.
During the SUMMERS of the past 40 years, Brother Henry has been ASSISTANT
WATERFRONT DIRECTOR and HEAD SAILING INSTRUCTOR at CAMP MARIST in the Lakes
and White Mountain Region of New Hampshire. He holds ARC Lifeguarding
Certification, ARC Certification in Standard First Aid and a New Hampshire
State Commercial Boat Driver's License. He also holds CPR and AED
Certification through the American Red Cross. Brother Henry was
HEAD MEN'S SWIM TEAM COACH for 8 years at Marist High School in Bayonne, New
Jersey and was a NISCA and FEDERATION COACHES member during that time.
YOUR MISSION is to MASTER the field of Honors Biology by being ATTENTIVE and
PARTICIPATING during class. LABORATORY WORK as well as faithfully doing
HOME ASSIGNMENTS are necessary to get the full benefit of the learning
experience. You 'get out' as much as you 'put in' to an academic program.
