About The Teacher
Mr. Woods is a proud graduate of Cato-Meridian, class of 1991. From there, he went on to OCC, where he graduated in 1993 with an Associates degree in Humanities. At OCC he took several philosophy classes which changed the way he viewed life. It is also where the desire to teach took hold. Mr. Woods enrolled at Oswego State University, where he graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor's degree in Education and English. He was hired to teach 6th grade science at Lura Sharp Elementary starting in September of 1996. He taught science for three years, then switched over to teaching language arts at the 6th grade level, which he taught for two. In this time he received his Master's degree in Reading/Literacy in 1999. Also during that time, he was a participant in the GOALS2000 cooperative grant with SUNY Oswego. This offered many opportunities, including presenting at conferences at the local, county and state level. In the Fall of 2001, Mr. Woods moved up to teach 8th grade English at Pulaski Jr./Sr. High School. Since then , he has taught both junior high and senior high English classes. In 2005/2006 he taught both 8th and 11th grade. Since then, he has been the English 11 teacher. In 2007 he began to take classes towards his administrative degree. In 2008 Mr. Woods took over the college English class at Pulaski. Mr. Woods has moved into the district with his wife and two children (a girl and a boy). He has coached football and basketball (boy's and girl's). He has also been an adjunct professor in the graduate literacy program at Oswego State University. Mr. Woods also completed his CAS degree in Educational Administration and hopes to one day be a principal. "Pulaski is an amazing district. We have the best kids, the most supportive community, and the most dedicated and approachable teachers I have ever met. Coming to work is always fun!"
Mission Label:
Mission
"I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think." - Socrates What is the purpose of English class? English class is really about thinking. Language is just thought given form. In English, we explore the nature of society, humankind and ourselves through literature. You should seek to expand your mind and think about yourself, which you may have not done seriously before. In your writing, what we are really looking for is the quality of your ideas. Can you clearly conceive an idea, and then support it? That is what English class is about.
