1898 - Rough Riders

1900

With characteristic fervor,
Theodore Roosevelt is shown
speaking when he stumped the
country for William McKinley
(1843-1901) during the Presidential
campaign of 1900. Roosevelt was
William McKinley's running mate on
the Republican ticket. During the
campaign, Teddy made 673 speeches
and traveled 21,209 miles and
contributed greatly to the success
of the party in the fall election.

1944

1912

Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919)
campaigning for president in 1912.
Roosevelt was president from 1901
to 1909 and tried to come back for
another term in 1912. The election
was a three-way race: Woodrow
Wilson, Democrat, William Howard
Taft, Republican, and Roosevelt,
Progressive. Wilson won with
Roosevelt finishing a distant
second.

1905 - Treaty of Portsmouth

In 1905 President Roosevelt helped
negotiate a treaty between Russia
and Japan to end their war, called
the Russo-Japanese War. For his
efforts, TR would receive the Nobel
Peace Prize.

1918

TR learned of the death of his
youngest son Quentin (1897-1918) in
July of 1918. Quentin, a fighter
pilot for the US Army Air Corps in
WWI, was shot down by the Germans
behind enemy lines.
