3 - Election Day Tomorrow - No School! In NYC, elections are for Mayor and
City Council. In NJ, elections are for governor. There are also two elections
on the federal level, both for House of Reps. In upstate NY the 23rd district
is up for grabs: Doug Hoffman (Conservative) vs. Bill Owens (Dem.) In
California the race is for the 10th district: John Garamendi (Dem) v. David
Harmer (Republican)

2 - All classes: Read your standards on iii, iv and v.
3 - Study for Monday's Word Work Quiz (including the Declaration of 
Independence, Constitution and the Bill of Rights)

1 - Class 5-320: Create three plausible scenarios that could occur involving 
our government. Explain how these situations would be handled by the 
different branches of our federal government. 
2 - Class 5-317, 5-326, 5-327: In an essay form (I.B.C.): Describe our three 
branches of the federal government. 
Legislative Branch – CONGRESS (House & Senate), 
Executive Branch – President, VP, Cabinet
Judicial Branch – Make rulings on important cases, decide if laws agree with 
the Constitution.
Remember to use specific examples to show how each branch works.

Tues. 10/27/09-
1 -Finish Patriot Letter 
2- Read your Constitution Sheet 1-2 on bottom of sheet, create 2 of your own 
questions.

Mon. 10/26/09
1 - Four sentences from word work sheet.
2 - Create an essay explaining which of the 10 federal holidays you feel is 
the most important and why (you may choose up to three holidays). Remember 
to have an introduction, body and conclusion.




Fri. 10/23/09
1 - Write a letter from the Patriot point of view explaining why the 
colonies should be independent. Use your class notes, use p.86-91, use 
www.history.com, use the internet to help you to research for your essay. 
Use specific historical details, such as Proclamation of 1763, Sugar Act of 
1764, Stamp Act of 1765, etc.

We would greatly appreciated donations of tissues, paper towels, papers and 
dry-erase markers. 
All students should have a binder with separate sections for each subject 
area.
Folders are also required.
For math, please obtain a graphing notebook.
