CONCLUSION

Congratulations! You have solved the mystery of which career best suits you
right now. You can start exploring that career to see if it really is a good
choice for you.

Remember that a career spans a lifetime; it grows and changes as you do. In
high school and college, you will be exposed to new classes, new ideas, and
new options, which you should also explore. The investigative devices used
in this class can be used throughout your life to update your self-
knowledge and to research the world of work.

Think about your responses to the sections of the SDS that asked what
activities you would like to try and what skills you would like to learn in
the future. Ask yourself what you can do now or in high school to explore
those activities or learn those skills. Are there courses you should
take? Are there extra-curricular activities you should join? Are there
volunteer/community service activities in which you should participate? Is
there an internship you should try?

In the My Portfolio section of the NYCareerzone site, there is an interest
inventory you can take whenever you wish to see if your profile has changed.
Take it annually. You should also update, in detail, at least annually,
your extra-curricular activities, sports participation, and community
service, as well as, your work experiences; this will be crucial information
for you to have when are preparing resumes for work/college.

There is a NY state poster that reads:

“85% of the students entering Kindergarten this year will work in careers
that don’t exist today”

What does that statement mean to you? What does it imply for your future?
How do you prepare for a career that doesn't exist?

The world is constantly changing; so are you.

Follow where life leads you, knowing you have the skills to investigate the
path ahead.
