Spelling/Cursive--The Unit 15 Pre-test will focus on Words Writers Use. There
will be a TEST on Friday in cursive. We will be completing our cursive
book...soon the children will be earning their pen license and writing
completely in cursive! Stay tuned....
Reading-- The children should be reading 15-30 minutes every night. They need
to respond to their reading THREE times on the Reflective Reading Log. The
children will continue handing in their reading response letters for a grade.
This will be done IN SCHOOL based on their independent reading. They have
ample amounts of time in school to complete these letters. We will continue
making connections (text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to world) this week.
Language/Writing--We will begin Unit 3 in our language book. This week we
will focus on common and proper nouns, capitalization and punctuation rules,
and context clues. In writing, we will continue practicing writing
persuasively. We will be reading Bad Dog Marley in order to write a
persuasive letter to the family to keep Marley as the family pet, even though
he does naughty things!
Math--The multiplication folder needs to be completed daily. We will begin
our multiplication unit by exploring the basis for multiplication. We will be
playing games such as Circles and Stars to explore multiplication as grouping
objects. We will learn that multiplication is really repeated addition and
can be shown using an array. Please bring in your array object by Monday.
Each child will also need an empty egg carton and small objects such as
pennies, beads, buttons, paper clips or raw macaroni in a plastic container by
Wednesday.
Science-- We will begin exploring static electricity and its relationship to
magnets.
Social Studies-- We will begin the unit on China. This week we will explore
China's map and geography. There will be a Map Quiz on Friday. Please study!
