IMPORTANT NOTES:
-TFK due Friday! Please READ the issue and complete the worksheets.
-Reflective Reading Record is due Monday!
-Report Card Conferences today (half day today)
-Book Orders are due tomorrow!
-If your child is absent, please arrange for work to be picked up and help
your child complete it in a timely manner.
Spelling/Cursive--The children will be given a Pre-test on Unit 12(consonants
j and s). Spelling assignments will be completed in cursive from now on
(except sentences). Please remember to study for the test on Friday. It will
also be in cursive. We will continue learning the capital letters.
Reading-- The children should be reading 15-30 minutes every night. They need
to respond to their reading THREE times on the Reflective Reading Log. The
children will continue handing in their reading response letters for a grade.
This will be done IN SCHOOL based on their independent reading. They have
ample amounts of time in school to complete these letters. We will continue
making connections (text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to world) this week.
Language/Writing--We will continue Unit 2 in the language book. We will be
focusing on singular and plural possessive nouns. In writers' workshop, we
will begin learning how to write persuasively. We will be reading I Wanna
Iguana by Karen Orloff. As a class, we will write a letter trying to persuade
Mrs. Blake not to give homework for a night. Independently, we will be
writing a letter persuading our parents to buy us a specific toy for Christmas.
Math--The multiplication folder will begin next week! Please read the
directions when they come home. There will be a Chapter 2 TEST on Tuesday. A
review sheet will come home tonight for homework. We will begin two and three
digit subtraction with borrowing this week. This skill is harder than
addition, so practice at home might be necessary.
Science-- We will begin exploring the parts of a plant. There will be a Parts
of a Plant QUIZ on Friday. The children will need to label and tell the
function of each part of the plant. We will be practicing all week but at
home study time is necessary.
Social Studies-- We will begin learning about the US Economy. We will be
concentrating on the difference between a product and a service and producers
vs. consumers.
General Information:
-A healthy snack and water bottle are optional, but highly suggested.
**Please note: We are a PEANUT-FREE Class!**
-Don't forget to save and collect Box Tops for Education labels!(send to
school in an envelope with your child's name and my name).
-Children should have 5 sharpened #2 pencils with erasers at all times.
-If your child is absent from school, please send an absent note on the day
the child returns to school.
--Time For Kids (TFK) will be assigned every Monday to be due on Friday.
Please make sure your child is reading it cover to cover. This is a good
opportunity to listen to you read as well. This helps the children hear the
fluency of a proficient reader. They will also have to complete worksheets as
well. Please make sure they are done NEATLY and in COMPLETE SENTENCES!
EVERY WEEK:
-A newsletter with the week's events will come home every Monday-look
for a piece of paper with NEWS FROM ROOM 11 on the top.
-Planners must be signed every night (including Friday).
-All tests/quizzes must be signed and returned regardless of the grade.
-The children should be reading and practicing their math facts fifteen to
thirty minutes every night.
-Any unfinished classwork will have to be completed for homework--it will be
written in the planner so you are aware.
