Spelling/Cursive--The children will be given a Pre-test on Unit 9 (long i: i
and igh). Please remember to study for the test on Friday. We have finished
learning the lower case letters in cursive. We will be reviewing this week
before beginning the capital letters!
Reading-- The children should be reading 15-30 minutes every night. They need
to respond to their reading THREE times on the Reflective Reading Log. The
children will practice writing a two sentence summary of what they have read
on a post-it note in order to write a reading response letter to their
independent reading book. This will be done IN SCHOOL. We have finished
visualization as a reading comprehension strategy. We will begin making
connections (text-to-self, text-to-text, and text-to world) this week.
Language/Writing--The Writing Benchmark will come home for your signature this
week. We will begin Unit 2 in the language book. We will be focusing on
singular and plural nouns. In writers' workshop, we will begin a compare and
contrast piece on the First Thanksgiving and Our Thanksgiving. We will be
using the internet and books to create a Double Bubble Thinking Map. This map
will help us write our compare/contrast paragraphs.
Math--It is necessary for the children to MEMORIZE the simple addition and
subtraction facts. There will be an Addition Properties Quiz on Tuesday. We
will continue learning how to round to the nearest ten and hundred this week.
There will be a Rounding to TEN QUIZ on Friday.
Science--The children will write a paragraph about a scientist on Friday as a
culminating activity to our Scientist Unit. We will then begin our Plant Unit
this week. We will be exploring the differences between monocot and dicot seeds.

about the US Economy in a couple of weeks. We will be concentrating on science.
