Do I need to sign my child's planner every night?

YES!  It is very important to check your child's homework and sign the 
planner every night.  The planner is also a good communication tool.  I check 
the students' planners every day.  Notes to and from the teacher should be in 
the "comments" section of the planner.

Does my child receive homework every night?

Most likely.  Sometimes they will finish assignments during school, but most 
of the time they'll have a few assignments for homework each night.

What does it mean when assignments are highlighted in my child's planner?

This means that your child did not complete the homework assignment on time.  
Students must complete the late assignment during the following school day, 
even if this means losing some recess time.
