****A multiplication folder will be given in December and each student will need to study every night. A parent will need to sign off on the folder every night.****

Social Studies: This year will have a focus on map skills, communities and regions of the world. We will begin with North America (geography, economics, history), and continue with China and Brazil.

Science: The focus of science will be on life cycles. We will begin by going over how to be a scientist, and then move into cycles. We will study plants, the water cycle, electricity and butterflies.

Language: We will be exploring different types of writing, poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Letter writing and creative writing will also be part of our language program. ***Spelling and handwriting are both included under language arts on the report card.

Classroom Management: In the classroom, I use a variety of techniques to acquire classroom management. I try to create a classroom community based on respect, rights of an individual, and honesty. There is use of a card flipping system that has consequences and rewards for each individual student. There are several ways through daily classroom practices to earn other rewards. The students are also responsible for a job everyday.

*Students will be given a planner to keep track of their work and activities. Their planners must be signed every night.

Homework: Homework will be given every night, except on Friday. The students will be given between 1 to 4 worksheets a night. This homework will be a reinforcement of the work done that day.

Snack: We have snack every day around 10:00 a.m. Please provide your child with a healthy snack daily. Please do not send candy as a snack.

*Please be aware that we are a PEANUT FREE classroom.

Birthday Snacks: If your child's birthday falls on a school day, please feel free to send in a snack (cupcakes, brownies, etc.). If you are dropping off a snack, please leave it at the office. All birthday snacks will now be had in the cafeteria during our lunch period.

*Again, we are a PEANUT FREE classroom, so if you are planning to bake for your child's birthday, please use peanut free products.
