6th grade homework

 

Students will be doing a rhythm sheet Friday, November 20 which will be 
finished at home if not finished in the classroom. MANY DID NOT TURN THIS IN.

The 6th graders are doing a research project right now.
Here are the following due dates for each step of the process.

research and blue cards due by the end of class on December 11th.

Organizing info in full sentences and placing them in a timeline order is due 
by December 17th at the end of class.

writing and illustrating a mini composer book is due by the end of class on 
December 23rd.

 
Students are required to write the following definitions and turn them in 
just before the 5 week marking period. The definitions with an * are the ones 
your child should have written so far.

beat: a steady pulse in music.*

rhythm:  the time relationship of sound and silence in music.*

meter: the number of beats grouped in a measure.*

time signature: the numbers placed at the beginning of a song.*
           the top number tells how many beats in a measure
the bottom number tells what tpye of note (quarter, eighth,       
half)equals one beat

pitch: a specific highness or lowness of a note.

non-pitch: when a sound is made but you cannot identify a specific pitch name.

repeat: when a note is followed by the exact same note.

step: when a note on a line is followed by a note on the next space or a note 
on a space is followed by a note on the next line.

leap:when a note on a line is followed by a note that is at least one line 
away or further or when a note on a space is followed by a note that is one 
space away or further.

contour: the shape of a melody.

melodic repetition: when a melody repeats itself.

melodic contrast: when a melody is followed by a completely different melody.

sequence: when a melody is followed by the exact same pattern that started on 
a new note.
