I have been involved with education for many years. In between all of those
many years I have also had a variety of other jobs which included working
for the post office and as a substitute teacher. It was my postmaster who
actually gave me the idea of becoming a school library media specialist.
Going to graduate school had always been a dream. I attended the School of
Library and Information Sciences at the University at Buffalo. It took
three years to complete my degree but it was well worth it. I love being a
school library media specialist.
On the personal side,I am the oldest of 6 children, having been born on
Father's Day! I am married, have three children: Ron, Alex and
Madeline. I enjoy scrapbooking, photography, stamping, landscape gardening
and of course reading books of all types.
My favorite number is 13, which if reversed is 31. My daughter was born on
Halloween! I love chocolate and rock and roll music!

"Empowering Young Minds to be Effective Users of Information."
My role as a school librarian is to teach students how to access information
in the library itself and on the Internet. Once we find the information we
need to learn how to evaluate it and use it successfully. It is
important that students get into the habit of evaluating material to check
for quality and that it is accurate and reliable information. Did you know
anyone can be an author on the World Wide Web?
I also promote reading. While I admit I do not read as often as I would
like, I do enjoy reading immensely. I have always enjoyed reading young
adult literature, so my job as a middle school librarian works out extremely
well.
Finally, students will be learning a variety of computer skills that partner
well with library literacy. As technology continues to move forward,
these skills will be most useful as students continue their education.
I am also able to collaborate one-to-one with teachers to help support the
school curricululm. It is much more fun and meaningful if I can teach
library skills with what the students are learning compared to teaching the
skills separately.
