Thank-you for attending Open House this week. I had fourteen out of
eighteen parents who came to Open House. We worked hard on making art
projects for this day, so we hope you enjoyed it. Are you playing "Feed the
Pumpkin" to practice the alphabet letters and sight words that we are
currently working on? Your help at home is appreciated.
Most of the parents in my room are signed up for a parent/teacher
conference, but I will have to contact some parents by phone to set up this
date. My conferences begin the week of November 3rd. I've chosen the
dates: November 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th for conferences, but if you need a
date other than these dates, I'm flexible. Call the school: 945-5170
ext:7167 to reach my phone.
Our Open Court unit that we are working on is called Shadows. We have
been having fun making various shadows with our hands on the overhead
projector. We even saw our shadows out at the playground last Friday! We
will be reading books about shadows, and we will act out Nursery Rhymes with
our shadows (big white sheet with overhead projector). It will be fun!
For Math, we are practicing writing the numbers 1-5, and recognizing
numbers 1-10. I use different activities to practice the numbers to make it
fun. The students like when I have counters that are edible (M&Ms, candy
corn, alphabet pretzels). I've found that food is very motivating! We also
have been working on making patterns, parquetry blocks, unifex cubes,
sorting money into trays, linking chains, counting backwards from 10, and
shapes.
The Halloween Parade will be on October 31st at 2:00 pm. The students are
not permitted to wear their costume to school, so please send your child's
costume in a bag labeled with their name on it. We will be getting dressed
about 1:30 pm. PTO provides cider and doughnuts for the students after the
parade, so it is not necessary to send in any treats for that day.
A Seneca Nation fire truck made a visit to our school for Fire Safety
week. Here is a picture of our class during our visit with the fire truck:
