Fifth Grade Homework

2009-2010 Fifth Grade Gallery Assignment

Each student in fifth grade will be given an independent art assignment that
will be put on display in the conference room gallery at Hagan and on Mrs.
Ciccone’s Teacher Web Page upon completion.

Students will be given two weeks to complete the project. In addition to
working at home, the art room and materials will be available to students
four days a week during recess.

Students are encouraged to explore their point of view through examination
of works of art, discussion with family and peers, as well as research.

All artwork must be fully completed using what they know about the elements
and principles of design. Students may use any 2 dimensional or 3
dimensional medium of their choice. Two dimensional work should not exceed
18” x 24”

In addition to the artwork, I ask for each student to type a short paragraph
explaining their point of view and how they have interpreted that idea into
their work of art.

October … Does art serve a purpose?
November…	Do you need to understand a work of art to enjoy the art?
December…	Is there a specific quality that makes a work of art a
masterpiece?
January…	Can a culture exist without art?
February…	Is art an imitation of life?
March…	Is it OK to judge a work of art?
April… Should art be censored?
May… Should we value art?
June… Should all museum objects be considered art?
