December 14-18

Dear Parents,

Due to the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I won’t be asking the children to record their story titles in their reading logs each night this week, but I do expect them to read for fifteen or twenty minutes nightly.  This is a wonderful time of year to share some of those favorite holiday stories with your fantastic first grader.  Any additional homework that is to be completed this week will be given on a daily basis.  This is a good opportunity for the children to demonstrate good listening skills and classroom responsibility.

As we continue to discuss how matter can change from a solid to a liquid, to a gas and back again, you can participate in your child’s investigations of matter by doing the family challenge activity that is attached.  It is not mandatory.  If your child does decide to do this activity, his or her response card can be returned to class anytime during the next week and a half.

I would like to thank all of you who are so generously donating clothes, gift certificates and toys to FAMILY O in the Spackenkill community.  I’m personally overwhelmed by your kindness and sensitivity and I trust family O will feel that same sense of love and appreciation.

Enjoy the delights that December brings!!!

Warmly,

Mary McGurl
