ITALIAN CULTURE AND HERITAGE MONTH



October is Italian Culture and Heritage month, and Il Club Italiano is proud to once again share
in the celebration this year.

Our theme is “Raffaello Sanzio: maestro rinascimentale”.


1. Saint Catharine Academy began its celebration of Italian Heritage Month on
Sunday, October 5th by participating in the Columbus Day Concert sponsored by
Senator Jeff Klein and The Paolo Palombo Band. The Club proudly displayed
work done by students in Italian classes, and senior Elvira Aversano was
introduced as this year’s Bronx Columbus Day Princess.

2. All members of Il Club Italiano will march in the Bronx Columbus Day Parade
on Sunday, the 12th, along with several other organizations from our school. The
parade princess, SCA senior Elvira Aversano, will be all smiles as she proudly waves to
onlookers.

3. One of the display cases in the Main Hall features the paintings of Renaissance
artist, Raffaello Sanzio – as diligently reproduced by students in Italian classes.

4. Morning prayers will be recited in Italian.

5. Daily trivia questions will focus on our theme, and prices will be awarded for
correct answers.

6. There will be a scavenger hunt for Columbus’ Santa Maria on Thursday, the
16th . Everyone in our school community is asked to search for the “ship”. The
person who finds the Santa Maria will be handsomely rewarded with a box of
delicious Baci.


7. On Friday, we invite all of SCA to support our bake sale held in the cafeteria during
lunch periods. All proceeds will be donated to the Bowery Mission.
